Asean Cup 2007

February 4, 2007

It must be difficult being one of only two guys every weekend at family dinners, and with my cousin in camp for some mega-exercise, my uncle had to rough it out alone, the sole male presence in the midst of five ladies.

Things came to a head today when we watched the Asean Cup finals together over dinner. Everytime the ball got a chance to come close to the Singapore scoring goalposts the ladies would squeal and shriek, which got my uncle complaining about how the ball will be too afraid to get anywhere near the net cos our squeals would drive it away. That in addition to the complete lack of knowledge about anything football related; cheering mistakenly when the ball heads towards the Thai net, cracking jokes about Precious, thinking that the match was being held in Singapore with a disproportionate Thai showing.

My uncle got his payback when amidst an apparent lull in the football proceedings, I was telling the other ladies about last night’s meal at Fortune Centre when my uncle said very calmly, "Singapore just scored a goal." And there, we missed the chance to scream when at last, we were supposed to. Oh well. Singapore rocks! Just pray that they don’t kena hantam by the Thai people tonight.
